Anjana Om Kashyap is a reputed Indian news journalist and news presenter who serves in the capacity of an anchor on the India Today news channel. She also serves as the host of Aaj Tak’s ‘Halla Bol’, a daily debate show. She also hosts the nationwide audience based election debate shows, ‘Dilli Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai’ and ‘Rajtilak’ that is aired at different venues in India, mostly open-air parks. Kashyap previously served as the host of ‘Badi Bahas’ and ‘Do Took’ on other Hindi news channels.

Kashyap started her career in journalism in 2003 when she wa hired by ‘Doordarshan'(DD) network as a news correspondent and reporter but was offered an opportunity to join Zee News in the same year, where she was made a studio presenter. Kashyap then worked with News 24 and later moved to Star News (Now ABP News) before she joined Aaj Tak News, where she became one of the highest paid journalists at the network. Kashyap has been felicitated with several journalism awards including an Indian Television Academy Award in the category Best News Anchor in 2014.

Early Life and Education

Kashyap was born as Anjana Om Tiwari on 12 June 1975 in Ranchi, Bihar (present day Jharkhand) in a Bihari Hindu family where she was raised by her home-maker mother and a her late father, Dr. Om Prakash Tiwari who was a former Defence Officer. Kashyap grew up in Ranchi along with her two siblings, a sister and a brother

Kashyap studied at the Loretto Convent School, Ranchi from where she attained her primary and secondary education and completed her matriculation. Kashyap aspired to be a medical professional like her father but was unable to perform well in the Pre-Medical test and enrolled into Daulat Ram College, Delhi from where she graduated. Kashyap aspired to serve in the Indian Administrative Services but was unable to crack the required UPSC examinations despite appearing for interviews twice. She later attended Jamia Milia Islamia for where she graduated with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Career Rise

Kashyap spent the early years of her career being involved with social work and even founded her own Non-Governmental Organization. She embarked upon a career in journalism in 2003 when she was hired by the Doordarshan, India’s national broadcaster in the capacity of a correspondent and news reporter. She gained prominence for working on the network’s show ‘Aankhon Dekhi’ and within a few months, was offered a studio position by the Zee News Channel. Kashyap served with Zee News for five years from 2003 to 2007.

Kashyap was hired by News 24 in the capacity of a news anchor and the host of the channel’s debate show ‘Do Tuk’ which became extremely popular in India. She also served as a news reporter on Star News (now ABP) and its sister channel India News on which she hosted another popular debate show ‘Badi Bahas’. In 2012, Kashyap was offered a position at Aaj Tak news where she was named as a deputy editor while also serving as a news and debate shows anchor, which contributed to her massive popularity in India. Kashyap serves as the host of three debate shows for the channel namely, ‘Halla Bol’, ‘Rajtilak’ and ‘Dilli Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai’ with the latter two focusing on the Elections.

Husband

Kashyap is married to Mangesh Kashyap who is a senior IPS officer of the AGUMT Cader. He was recently promoted to the post of Chief Vigilance Officer for South Delhi’s Municipal Corporation. Together they have two children, a son and a daughter.

Kashyap’s husband’s promotion was questioned by the Aam Aadmi Party alleging that he got the promotion as an understanding between the BJP and his wife, a claim denied by both parties.
