Demi Gene Guynes, known professionally as Demi Moore is a famous American actress. She is also a former model and songwriter. Moore pursued a career in acting after dropping out of high school at the young age of 16. She debuted on the big screen in 1981 and also appeared on ‘General Hospital’, a soap opera. Moore found nation-wide recognition with 1986’s ‘About Last Night…’ and received both critical and commercial success and established herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest star.

Early Life and Education

Moore was born in Rosewell, New Mexico on November 11, 1962 to Charles Harmon, Sr., an Air Force airman and Virginia King. Moore’s father left her mother just after two months of their marriage, before she was born. Moore’s mother soon married Dan Guynes, who she considers to be the only father figure in her life.

Moore was a student at Fairfax High School, West Hollywood, California. She left high school when she was sixteen and went to Europe on assignment as a pin-up girl for the Elite Modelling Agency. Moore was inspired by German actress Nastassja Kinski and enrolled into drama classes.

Career Rise

The first half of the 1990’s was a very successful period in Moore’s career. Her movies did well commercially and she also received multiple film nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Ghost’ in 1990. Some of her successful movies in the period include ‘A Few Good Men’ in 1992, ‘Indecent proposal’ in 1993 and ‘Disclosure’ in 1994.

By 1996, Moore became one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses, earning a whopping $12.5 Million for her role in ‘Striptease’, although the movie turned out to be a high-profile disaster. She also earned $11 Million for ‘G. I. Jane., a movie for which, she had famously shaved her head. After 1997 Moore’s career went significantly downhill.

She has since appeared in a cameo role in 2003’s ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’ and other movies that have not been box-office successes. However, she manages to remain a subject of interest in the media till today.

Moore has been married thrice. She first married singer Freddy Moore when she was seventeen years old, in February 1980. He was 12 years older to her. Moore adopted his surname and used it as her stage name. The couple divorced in August 1985. Moore was later engaged to Emilio Estevez but called off their engagement soon. Moore then married actor Bruce Willis in November 1987 and had three daughters with him named Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. The couple divorced in October 2000.
