Ezra Matthew Miller is an American singer, actor, musician, and activist. He made his acting debut with the 2008 movie Afterschool. He is most famous for his role as The Flash/Barry Allen in the DC Extended Universe; he has played the lead in 2017 film Justice League and had cameo appearances in 2016 movie Suicide Squad and 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Early Life and Education

Ezra was born on 30th Sep, 1992, in Wyckoff, New Jersey to Robert S. Miller and Marta. His father was MD and senior VP at Hyperion Books who later moved to Workman Publishing as a publisher. His mother was a modern dancer. He has 2 sisters who are older than him.

Miller went to the Rockland Country Day School and then to The Hudson School. He dropped out of school when he was 16 years, after his movie ‘Afterschool’ released.

Ezra had a speech impediment as a child. Hence, in order to overcome it he began training as an opera singer. He has performed during the US premiere of the opera White Raven by Philip Glass. He has also been a singer in the Metropolitan Opera.

Career

Ezra started his acting career in the 2008 film Afterschool directed by Antonio Campos. He portrayed the role of a teenager who accidentally captures the drug-linked fatalities of his two boarding school classmates and is then asked to make a memorial video for them.

In 2009, Miller acted alongside Andy Garcia in the movie City Island. He then co-starred in the movies Every Day and Beware the Gonzo. He later appeared in the critically acclaimed BBC films produced movie ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’ with Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly as co-stars. His acting jobs on TV include the show ‘Royal Pains’ and comedy show ‘Californication.’

In 2012, Miller worked alongside Emma Watson and Logan Lerman in the film ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower.’ In 2016, he played the role of Credence Barebone in the hit film ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’ He will repeat his character in the sequel film ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,’ which is slated to release in Nov 2018.

In 2018, Miller went to the ‘Middle East Film and Comic Con’ as Barry Allen/The Flash, the DC character he portrays in different movies.

Ezra is a part of the band ‘Sons of an Illustrious Father.’ He is the vocalist, percussionist, and drummer in the band. Other members of the band include Josh Aubin and Lilah Larson.

  • Ezra has stated that he is a queer. He has defined queer as not being gay, but as someone who is typically drawn to ‘shes.’ He has stated that he has been with numerous people and is open to all forms of love, of different genders and sexes, and no one specifically. Miller has stated that he found out that he liked kissing boys when he was young.
  • In June 2011, Ezra was charged with marijuana drug possession in Pittsburg, PA. The judge dropped the charge and Miller had to pay $600 as penalty for disorderly conduct. Ezra later said that he does not feel the need to avoid saying that he likes smoking pot. He clarified that marijuana was a harmless herb-like thing that elevated sensory pleasure.
  • He is 5’ 10” tall.
