Beyoncé was born on 4 September 1981 in Houston, Texas as the elder daughter of hairdresser and salon owner Celestine “Tina” Beyincé and Xerox sales manager Mathew Knowles. Knowles later started serving as Beyoncé’s manager. She has African American ethnicity on her father’s side of the family and Louisiana Creole ancestry on her mothers. Beyoncé began dating singer/rapper Jay Z in 2002 and married him in April 2008 in a private ceremony. She suffered a miscarriage in 2010 and called it “the saddest thing she ever endured”.
