Mike Pence is a popular politician and the 2016 United States elected Vice President. He is also currently serving as the 50th Governor of Indiana. He was elected to the United States Congress finally in the year 2000 where he was the representative for Indiana’s 2nd and 6th Congressional district.
Pence served in the House of Representatives from 2001 till 2013. He was also the chairman of the House Republican Conference for two years from 2009 till 2011. In 2012, Pence was ultimately elected as the Governor of Indiana. Some of the major changes he did after coming into power was cut back taxes, making educational facilities easier to be accessed.
Pence has been amidst several controversies. His opposition to the LGBTQ+ people have been something that has been headlines from the very beginning of his career. His ideals of using gay conversion therapy were something that created a lot of riots.

Early life and education
Mike Pence was born on June 07, 1959 in Columbus, Indiana to Nancy Jane and Edward J. Pence. He has five other siblings. Pence was named after his grandfather, Richard Michael Cawley.
Pence did his schooling from Columbus North High School from where he passed out in the year 1977. After that, he achieved his Bachelor’s degree in History from the Hanover College in the year 1981 and later finished his law degree in the year 1986 from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law which is part of the Indiana University.

Political career
After earning a law degree, Pence started his career as a private attorney. Later he even ran for a Congressional set in the year 1988 and 1990 but lost both the times. He later became the President of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation and even part of the State Policy Network.
Pence resigned from the Indiana Policy Review Foundation to host his very own radio talk show on WRCR-FM which was titled as “The Mike Pence Show”. He even hosted some political shows from Indianapolis.
He was finally elected the Governor of Indiana in the year 2012 and is still in office. He is also the newly elected Vice President after Donald Trump won the 2016 U.S Presidential Elections.
Controversies
- Pence signed the Indiana Senate Bill in the year 2015 under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act which clearly stated possible discrimination of the people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. This created a lot of protests and riots against his power.
- Another controversy happened in 2016 when he imposed a law restricting Abortion and banishing it. It created a lot of buzz when the reasons included by the pregnant mothers included the child bearing any kind of disabilities or due to its sex or skin colour.
- Pence was also faced with a lot of protests when he wanted to sign away all the expenses of the government to the HIV/AIDS foundations and instead wanted to use the money for gay conversion therapy.
