Conor Anthony McGregor is a professional martial artist and Boxer from Ireland currently signed with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). McGregor has been the UFC Featherweight Champion formerly and is currently reigning as the UFC Lightweight Champion. In his decade long career, McGregor has competed in categories such as featherweight, welterweight and lightweight. He is the first ever fighter in UFC’s history to hold both titles simultaneously.

McGregor is known for his hugely extravagant lifestyle and for trash talking his opponents in the ring. He has gained recognition for being the MMA’s history’s biggest pay-per-view draw. In 2016, he became the first ever mixed martial artist to have featured in the Forbes list of 100 highest paid athletes in the world, listed on the 85th position, earning $22 Million and jumped to the 24th position in 2017 with annual earnings of $34 Million.

Early Life and Education

McGregor was born in Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland on 14 July 1988 to Margaret and Tony McGregor. He has two siblings; sisters Erin and Aoife McGregor. The McGregor children were raised in Crumlin.

McGregor attended an Irish medium primary school or a Gaelscoil as well as secondary school or Gaelcholáiste in Tallaght’s Coláiste de hÍde School. McGregor started boxing at 12 years of age at the Crumlin Boxing Club.  McGregor’s family moved to Lucan, Dublin in 2006 and he enrolled into Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life School. It was here that he started his mixed martial arts training along with Tom Egan, another UFC fighter.

Career Rise

McGregor started fighting MMA professionally in March 2008 and defeated Gary Morris in his very first fight. He then defeated Mo Taylor. Although he lost in his debut featherweight fight, he won in his second fight, defeating Stephen Bailey. McGregor soon moved to lightweight and between the years 2011 and 2012 won both Cage Warriors Fighting Championships; lightweight and featherweight and became the first ever MMA champion to hold both titles simultaneously. McGregor debuted in UFC in February 2013, defeating Marcus Brimage and earned his first award in the ‘Knockout of the Night’ category. He won his first ever ‘Performance of the Night’ award in July 2014, defeating Diego Brandão and has won the title several times ever since.

Connor faced José Aldo in a highly promoted match that drew more than 16,000 spectators in December 2015 and defeated him in a record breaking MMA event. José was defeated by McGregor in a record 13 seconds within the first round via knockout. This became the fastest victory in the history of UFC and won McGregor his second UFC Featherweight Championship. Within a year of becoming the featherweight champion, McGregor faced Eddie Alvarez and won the UFC Lightweight Championship, thus becoming the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two different weight divisions simultaneously.

Conor McGregor – Girlfriend

McGregor entered into a relationship with girlfriend Dee Devlin in 2008 and the couple have been together ever since. Devlin gave birth to their first child, a son named Con Jack McGregor Jr in May 2017. McGregor speaks Irish fluently.

Trivia

McGreggor mostly trains at Reykjavik’s Mjölnir gym with fellow UFC fighter and friend Gunnar Nelson. He is an advocate of same-sex marriage and has lent his support to the cause. In 2016, McGregor was granted a professional boxing license by the California State Athletic Commission.
