Early life and background
Robin Roberts was born on 23rd November 1960 in Tuskegee, Alabama. She is the daughter of Lucimarian Tolliver and Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts. She is the youngest child of the couple. She passed her early life in Pass Christian in Mississippi. As a child, she actively took part in sports especially in basket ball and tennis. She successfully completed her school education as a class of 1979 salutatorian. Thereafter, she joined the Southeastern Louisiana University and earned a graduation degree in communication.
Career Achievement
Robin Roberts started her career as a sports anchor and reporter for WDAM-TV in the year 1983. Thereafter, in subsequent years she got associated as a reporter and sports anchor in many TV channels namely WLOX-TV, WSMV –TV, WAGA –TV. She also served as radio host for the radio station V-103 in Atlanta.
Roberts joined ESPN in the year 1990 as sportscaster. Her famous one liner “”Go on with your bad self!” in the popular sports news program ‘SportsCenter’ made her a famous personality. In June 1995 Robert started to work as a featured reporter for Good Morning America in ABC news channel.
Due her outstanding sports journalism she received the Mel Greenberg Media Award presented by Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). In the year 2005 Robert was promoted as the co-host of Good Morning America show. George Robert Stephanopoulos joined her as the co-host of the show in the year 2009. Under their partnership, the show topped the chart of top morning shows in the year 2012. She also took the interview of President Barrack Obama in her show Good Morning America on May 9, 2012
Roberts has also anchored many emotional episodes for the Mississippi Gulf Coast which was destroyed by the Hurricane Katrina. She hosted the academy awards for ABC in 2009 and 2011. She also made a guest appearance in the Disney Channels’ popular show Hannah Montana season 4 in the episode no 10.
Roberts also drove the Pace Car for the 2010 Indianapolis 500. As an acknowledgement for her contribution to women’s basketball through her broadcasting, her name is included in the Women’s Basketball Hall Of Fame. She was also awarded the 2012 Peabody Award for her show Good Morning America. Roberts is also the proud recipient of the 2013 Arthur Ashe Award for Courage by ESPN.
