Early Life and Education
Rami Said Malek was born on May 12, 1981, in LA, California. His mother was an accountant. His father used to work as a tour guide in Cairo and later had a job as an insurance salesman. Rami was raised in the Coptic Orthodox faith of the family and he spoke Arabic language at home till he was 4 years old.
Malek attended Sherman Oaks’ Notre Dame High School. He then went to the University of Evansville in Indiana, graduation with a BA degree in Fine arts in 2003.
Film and TV career
Rami made his debut as a guest actor in 2004, in the popular TV series “Gilmore girls.” In 2005, his performance in 2 episodes of war drama “Over There” won him a Screen Actors Guild card. A year later, he appeared on Fox drama “The War at Home”.
In 2006, Malek made his big screen debut as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah in the superhit film “Night at the Museum”. He was recast as the Pharaoh in the next two sequels. He made his stage debut in 2007 with Vitality Productions’ “The Credeaux Canvas”.
In 2010, he had a recurring role in season 8 of TV series ‘24’. After that he appeared in “The Pacific”, “Larry Crowne”, “Short Term 12”, “Aint Them Bodies Saints”, “The Master”, Spike Lee’s “Oldboy”, and “Battleship”. In 2015, he was cast in the lead role in TV show “Mr. Robot”.
