Bird then played college basketball at Indiana State University, leading the team to the NCAA Championship game in 1979 where they lost to Magic Johnson’s Michigan State team.

In 1978, Bird was drafted sixth overall by the Boston Celtics in the NBA draft, and played his entire professional career with the team from 1979 to 1992. During his career, he won three NBA championships, three NBA MVP awards, and two NBA Finals MVP awards. He was also named to the NBA All-Star team 12 times and the All-NBA team 10 times.
