Early Life and Education
Spacey was born on 26th July 1959 in the city of South Orange in New Jersey, USA as the son of his parents, technical writer and data consultant Thomas Geoffrey Fowler and secretary Kathleen Ann Knutson. He was raised in Southern California along with his elder siblings, a brother, Randy and a sister, Julie and is of English, Welsh and Swedish ancestry.
Spacey studied at the Military Academy of Northridge and the Canoga Park High School in Los Angeles and later enrolled into the Chatsworth High School, Chatsworth, California, graduating as a co-valedictorian in 1977. He attended the prestigious Julliard School in New York City from where he studied drama between 1979-1981.

Spacey began his career with stage performances and debuted on Broadway in 1981. He made his television debut appearing in the first episode of the second season of the show ‘Crime Story’. For several years, the media speculated that Spacey was gay but the 1.78 meter tall actor never addressed the speculation. In October 2017, Spacey finally came out after he was accused by actor Anthony Rapp for allegedly making a “se*ual advance” on him, which Spacey termed as “deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour”, in an apology to Rapp.
