Kareena Kapoor Khan is one of the most popular actresses in Bollywood. She is the daughter of actors Babita and Randhir Kapoor; and sister of actress Karisma Kapoor. Early Life and Background

Born on 21st September, 1980, into a family of film background, Kareena is also referred to as Bebo. She was born in Mumbai. Her father’s side is of Punjabi descent and mother’s side is of Sindhi/British descent. She practiced Hinduism regularly but was exposed to Christianity as well. She studied in Jamnabai Narsee School and Welham Girls’ School situated in Mumbai and Dehradun respectively. She went to Mithibai College, Mumbai and studied commerce for two years. Kareena registered for a 3-month microcomputer’s course in Harvard University, US. Her interests later shifted to Law, so she studied in Government Law College in Mumbai. Kareena started training in an acting institute, mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor. Kishore was the member of Film and Television Institute of India.

Career Achievements

She started her movie career with the movie  ‘Refugee’ in 2000. She established herself through movies like Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai,  Asoka and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham – all of these released in 2001. In 2004, Chameli gave her a lot of critical appreciation.

Her films Dev and Omkara,  in 2004 and 2006 respectively, gave her critical recognition. She is known for her striking presence in movies like Yuva, Aitraaz, Bewafaa, Chup Chup Ke, Golmaal Returns, Gomaal 3 and many more. Bebo received the Best Actress award in 2007 for box-office hit movie Jab We Met. This movie was a big achievement in her career.  Till date, it is her most loved movie.

In 2009, she was in a comedy-drama, 3 idiots which became a huge hit in the box-office as well. She later went on to give back to back hit films like  Golmaal 3 (2010) and Bodyguard (2011). Even though Ra One (2011) and Heroine (2012) did not do too well, she had established her as the highest paid and the most-in demand actress of her time. Post 2013, Deepika Padukone became the hit-machine with back to back hits for a couple of years. Kareena Kapoor, however, still continued to be popular and delivered hits like Singham Returns (2014) and Ki and Ka (2016). She also had an impactful role in Udta Punjab (2016)

Kareena faced failures and negative reviews for some of her films like   Main Prem Ki Diwaani hoon, Khushi, Kambakkht Ishq, Mughse Dosti Karoge, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, LOC: Kargil and many others.

Apart from her acting interests, Kareena had opened her own clothing line with a retail-chain called Globus. This was a five year contract. She also authored books with the help of nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar. She has contributed in philanthropic works such as UNICEF, 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, Kashmir Flood Relief, the launch of women’s safety mobile app – VithU. Her wax model is also present in the Madame Tussauds museum.

 

Relationships

Bebo was linked with Hrithik Roshan at one point of time. From 2003-2007, she was in a relationship with Shahid Kapoor, a Bollywood actor. They broke-up and she later started dating Saif Ali Khan, another Bollywood actor, in 2009. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor got married on October, 2012.  Kareena Kapoor delivered a son named Taimur Ali Khan, on December 20, 2016.
