Early Life and Education
Perry was born on October 25, 1984 to Mary Christine Perry and Maurice Keith Hudson in Santa Barbara, California, in a conservative family. Her parents consider themselves “Born Again” Christians and are Pentecostal pastors. Perry is of English, Irish, German and Portuguese ancestry. She has two siblings, an older sister Angela, and a younger brother David, who is also a singer. Perry stated that she listened to secular music secretly, through CD’s she borrowed from her friends, as it was banned in her home.
Perry attended the ‘Dos Pueblos High School’ and from where she completed her General Education Development requisites. She learned Italian Opera at Santa Barbara’s ‘Music Academy of the West’. Perry is best known for her single “I kissed a girl”, that she released in 2008. Although, it stirred quite a controversy, the song received immense popularity and gave Perry the kind of recognition she had not seen in her career until then.
