Julie Gibson is a former American actress and singer, who is one of the oldest living former actresses in the world. As of 2018, she is the oldest living actor to have worked in the Three Stooges. She had a great and successful career as an actress and singer in the 1940s.

Early Life

Julie was born as Gladys Camille Sorey on 6th September, 1913 in either Grant County, Washington or Lewiston, Idaho. Her father was Grover C. Sorey. Her parents were from Lewiston.

Career

Julie began her career as a singer in the Jimmie Grier orchestra. This is where her singing skills were first noticed.

Gibson became a part of the radio program of Joe Penner in 1937. She first began appearing in movies as an actor in minor roles in 1941 with films such as The Feminine Touch and Nice Girl.

In 1944, she got her big break with a major role in the movie Lucky Cowboy. Subsequently, she went onto star in featured roles in varied movies like The Contender, Chick Carter, Bowery Buckaroos, Detective, and Are You with It? Julie also worked in the two Three Stooges movies, i.e., Sock-a-Bye Baby and Three Smart Saps.

Julie’s career took a downturn in the 1950s and she generally got minor or mid-sized supporting roles on TV and movies. During the next decade, she worked on TV sitcom ‘Family Affair’ as a dialogue supervisor for over 20 episodes. Gibson also held jobs as an accent coach for actors so as to assist them in speaking correctly to suit the backgrounds of the characters they were enacting.

She also did dubbing of vocals for Diana Lynn and Betty Hutton in some movies. As part of her Job, Julie travelled to Europe and offered English vocals for foreign actors in French and Italian movies.

  • Julie married Jimmy Grier, a bandleader in March 1939 in Tucson, AZ. The couple divorced a year later.
  • Her second marriage was in 1964 to Dean Dillman. They divorced in 1967.
  • Gibson married for the third time in 1973 to film director and actor Charles Barton. He passed away of a cardiac arrest in 1981.
  • Julie has no children.
