Mattis was/is deeply interested in study of world history and military history and has a personal library with more than 7,000 volumes. Jim is a supporter of the two-state solution plan for bringing peace to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He maintains that the present situation is not sustainable; he has stated that the settlements damage hopes of peace and may eventually result in an apartheid-like scenario in the region’s West Bank area.
