Gabriella Michelle Henderson, popularly known as Ella Henderson, is a British singer and songwriter. She finished 6th in the 2012 ninth season of the reality series ‘The X Factor.’ She subsequently went on to record her debut studio album titled Chapter One and her first single “Ghost.”

The first single was released in June 2014 and it reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the chart’s top 5 for 87 successive weeks. Since then, it has been certified Platinum in sales in the UK, US, New Zealand, and Australia. The debut album released in October 2014 and made its debut at number 1 in the UK Albums Chart. It was certified Platinum in the UK. It also reached the top 20 on the IRMA charts, the ARIA charts, the Swiss charts, the New Zealand charts, and the Scottish charts.

Early Life and Education

Ella Henderson was born on Jan 12, 1996, Tetney, Lincolnshire, UK to Michelle and Sean Henderson. She has 3 siblings.

Ella started singing when she was just 3 years old. A few years later, she learnt to play the piano on her own. She used to sing and perform for her family during Christmas. Her grandfather was the one who encouraged her to keep writing songs and singing, and the two shared a special bond.

Ella attended the ‘St Martin’s Preparatory School’ primary school located in Grimsby where her interest for singing developed further. She then auditioned for a scholarship at the ‘Tring Park School for the Performing Arts’ located in Hertfordshire and got the scholarship. She studied there till age 16.

In 2012, Henderson sang on ‘Come Dine with Me,’ a Channel 4 celebrity Christmas special. It was shot before the appearance of Ella on X Factor.

Career

Ella gave her audition for series nine of show ‘The X Factor’ in 2012. She sang her original song called ‘Missed’ which later became a part of her debut album. Tulisa was her mentor after she reached the live shows. In week 7 of the show, she was in the bottom 2 and had to sing to survive. She was then voted by Louis Walsh and Tulisa to be sent into the quarter finals, where she went into a deadlock with James Arthur and lost to him, receiving 12.1 percent of the votes to Arthur’s 13.7 percent votes. Her exit from the show was a shock for all. Later, several celebrities praised her singing abilities and came out in support of her.

In Jan 2013, Ella stated that she had signed onto the record label of Simon Cowell ‘Syco Music.’ She then travelled with the ‘The X Factor live tour.’ In 2013, she uploaded numerous promotional live songs on YouTube.

Henderson released her debut song and debut studio album in 2014. Before the release of her first song, Ella performed it on May 26, 2014, during the first semi-final of the show ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’

Ella was the supporting act for the band ‘Take That’ during their Take That Live 2015 tour of the UK. In Oct and Nov 2015, she went on her headlining debut UK tour. In 2015, she was also featured in Sigma’s single ‘Glitterball’ and DJ Kygo’s song ‘Here for You.’

In 2017, she supported the ‘Back from the Edge’ tour of X Factor winner James Arthur. During this tour, she sang new songs that were going to be in her second album. These included songs titled ‘Let’s Go Home Together’ ‘Ugly’, ‘Bones’, ‘Cry Like A Woman,’  and ‘Solid Gold.’

In Feb 2018, Ella and Syco Music parted ways.
