Charlie Puth is an American songwriter, singer, and record producer. He first became famous after the viral success of his video songs that he put up on YouTube.

Early Life and Education
Charles Otto Puth Jr. was born on 2 December, 1991, to real estate agent and builder Charles Puth and music teacher Debra, in Rumson, New Jersey. His mother also wrote advertisements for HBO. Debra is Jewish while Charles Puth Sr. is Catholic.
Charlie was introduced to classical music by his mother and she started teaching him the piano when he was only 4 years old. He began learning jazz when he was 10 years old. At age 12, he took part in a youth jazz summer ensemble at Cool School of Count Basie Theatre.
Charlie went to Rumson’s Holy Cross School and Forrestdale Middle School. He then attended Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and graduated in 2010. From seventh grade onwards till the senior years, he went to the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College as a minor in classical studies and a major in jazz piano. He later enrolled at the Berklee College of Music and graduated in 2013 with a major in music production and engineering.
Career
- Puth launched his own channel named Charlies Vlogs on YouTube in September 2009 and posted acoustic covers and comedy videos. A year later he uploaded the music video of ‘These Are My Sexy Shades,’ his first song. In December, The Otto Tunes, his extended debut play was independently released by him.
- In 2011, Charlie won the Perez Hilton sponsored online video contest ‘Can you Sing?’ He had performed a version of ‘Someone like You’ alongside Emily Luther. Subsequently, Ellen DeGeneres signed Charlie and Emily to her label eleveneleven. Puth left the label a year later.
- In October 2013, Charlie independently released his 2nd extended play called Ego to online streaming. During the period he also wrote and produced songs and jingles for other personalities on YouTube.
- In 2014, Puth released the music video for promotional single titled “L.U.V.” He also co-wrote ‘Celebrate’ song on Globalization, the 8th studio album of Pitbull.
- In 2015, Charlie’s debut single ‘See you Again’ was released as a tribute to late Paul Walker for the soundtrack of Furious 7 movie. Puth co-produced, co-wrote and performed the song with Wiz Khalifa. The song reached US Billboard Hot 100’s number one position and remained there for 12 non-successive weeks. The new-found fame led to several releases such as ‘Marvin Gaye’ featuring Meghan Trainor vocals. This song became number one on the charts in Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. The songs ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ and ‘One Call Away’ respectively reached number 9 and number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
- January 2016 saw the release of the debut studio album of Charlie called ‘Nine Track Mind.’ It was not well received by critics or the audience.
- His new singles ‘how long’ and ‘attention’ from his upcoming 2nd studio album ‘Voicenotes’ were released in 2017. The latter reached number 5 on the US Billboard chart. Voicenotes is set to release in May 2018.
- In January 2018, Charlie released ‘If You Leave Me Now’ a promotional single that featured Boyz II Men. Puth will go on his 2018 Voicenotes Tour with special guest Hailee Steinfeld.

- When Charlie was 2 years old his right eyebrow got scarred permanently in an almost life-threatening dog-bite episode.
- Puth went door to door, when he was in grade six, to sell a Christmas album produced and recorded by him and titled ‘Have a Merry Charlie Christmas.’ He made over $590 in sales.
