Sophie Turner – Know her Better!

Sophie Belinda Turner is a popular English actress who rose to prominence since she made her acting debut professionally in 2011. She is best known for essaying the character of Sansa Stark in the popular series ‘Game of Thrones’ that airs on HBO. Turner’s role on the series brought her critical and international acclaim, making her the most recognized television actors of her generation. Turner has been nominated 4 times for a Screen Actor Guild Award which includes one nomination in the category Best Young Artist.

Turner made her silver screen debut with the 2013 film ‘Another Me’ in which she portrayed the doppelganger characters of Fay and Lila Delussey. She also appeared in a television film in 2013 titled ‘The Thirteenth Tale’. Turner won an Empire Hero Award, and two Glamour Awards for her work on ‘Game of Thrones’. She has also been felicitated with an award at the Venice International Film Festival.

Early Life and Education

Turner was born on 21 February 1996 in Northampton, England, United Kingdom to nursery school teacher Sally Turner and pallet distribution employee Andrew Turner. She was raised in Chesterton, Warwickshire along with her two older brothers, where her family moved after she turned two. Turner had a twin sibling who died before birth. She quotes the television series’ Hannibal and Breaking Bad as her absolute favourites.

Turner was a student at the Warwick Prep School which she attended until the age of eleven. She later enrolled into The King’s High School for Girls, at Smith Street, Warwick. Since she started her acting career at a young age, a tutor would visit the ‘Game of Thrones’ set to coach her in her academics until she turned 16. Since the age of 3, Turner has been a member of the Playbox Theatre Company. Turner achieved high grades at CGSE which include Five A’s, and Four B’s, including a B in drama.

Career Rise

Turner made her television debut in 2011, essaying the character of a young noblewoman called Sansa Stark on the fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’ that airs on HBO. The show is currently in its seventh season and Turner has been a part of every season from the time it first aired in 2011. She was encouraged by her drama teacher to audition for the role, for which she dyed her naturally blonde hair to auburn. Turner was nominated in the category Best young Artist in a TV Series for her work as Sansa in 2012.

Turner made her silver screen debut with the film independent thriller ‘Another Me’ portraying the dual characters of Fay / Lila Delussey. She appeared in the television film ‘The Thirteenth Tale’ in 2013 where she played ‘Adeline March’. Turner’s other roles include the 2013 comedy movie ‘Barely Lethal’ in which she shared screen space with American actress Hailee Steinfeld. She served as the narrator of audio-book version of ‘The Girl in the Mirror’, a short story by Lev Grossman. Her other notable roles include that of Jean Grey/Phoenix in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, a role she is set to reprise in its 2018 sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix.


In the past, the 1.75 meter tall Turner had been romantically linked to guitarist James McVay of ‘The Vamps’ fame. As of 2016, Turner has dating American singer Joseph Adam “Joe” Jonas. The two are often spotted together and have officially accepted their relationship.
